Dear Healthcare Provider: I am seeking affirming, inclusive and compassionate care

Too often I hear stories from folks about how they have been shamed, stigmatized and haven’t been heard by their healthcare provider(s). And it’s not ok. It is very important (and honestly, vital to our health) to feel welcome to share with our providers what we need AND be heard and validated by them. We are allowed to state our needs to our healthcare providers and those who provide us care. We are allowed to communicate with them what they CAN do and are doing well do to support your health and well-being as well as what isn’t helpful to us. . I wanted to share this advocacy resource for anyone who would like to use it! Feel free to add to it, share with your provider and use it in whatever way that can be helpful so you can receive the care you deserve. I’m also including links to other advocacy resources I have found to be very helpful.

I believe it is also important to acknowledge that while we have a right to state and ask for what we need, many folks don’t feel they have that right when seeking care. And many folks do not have access to resources to easily switch to a provider who does. THIS SUCKS and is UNJUST! Folks have a right to compassionate care...it shouldn’t be a privilege.

To those providers who do listen, validate and provide compassionate care! THANK YOU! ❤️ Keep pushing for inclusive and compassionate care for all.
